My Erasmus semester in Kalisz, Poland, as a Nursing student at the Faculty of Medicine was more than an academic exchange it was a quiet transformation. Living and studying in a new country taught me lessons no textbook could offer: adaptability, resilience, and the value of human connection in unfamiliar environments. In the classrooms and clinical settings, I was exposed to different perspectives on healthcare and patient care, which challenged the way I think as a future nurse.

Outside the university, Kalisz became the place where strangers turned into friends and everyday moments turned into lasting memories. Sharing late conversations, cultural differences, and mutual support with students from around the world shaped my understanding of teamwork, empathy, and global citizenship.

This experience did not simply add a semester to my studies; it reshaped my confidence, my goals, and my vision for the kind of healthcare professional and person I aspire to become. Kalisz will always hold a special place in my heart, as it was a place where I faced challenges, gained independence, and discovered new opportunities for the future.

Stepping into Poland as an exchange student was like stepping into a new life. Four and a half months were more than a study period, they shaped me, the way I think, live, and understand the world. It showed me what life can look like in other places around the world.

This experience gave me the chance to meet people from diverse cultures and backgrounds, all with their own traditions and ways of life, which deeply shaped my mindset. Also, Poland the country itself, its beauty, its untouched nature, its rich culture, and most importantly, its nice and kind people who are always willing to help left a strong impression on me. It was an eye opening experience that improved me both personally and intellectually. I am genuinely grateful for this opportunity and thankful for every factor that made this experience possible, as it is something I will always value and carry with me.

My Erasmus experience in Kalisz has been truly transformative. It was full of unforgettable memories, personal growth, and countless adventures. From the moment I arrived in this charming Polish city, I felt warmly welcomed by its friendly atmosphere. Studying at the University of Kalisz was an incredible experience—our courses were intellectually stimulating, engaging, and genuinely enjoyable. The professors were not only knowledgeable but also approachable and supportive, always ready to guide us, especially during individual presentations, which helped me explore topics deeply and develop my skills.

One of the most memorable classes for me was “Sport of the Disabled.” Each week, we learned a different sport to better understand the challenges faced by people with disabilities. This course was not only physically engaging but also profoundly meaningful, as it developed my empathy, broadened my perspective, and taught me the importance of inclusivity in sports and everyday life. I am especially grateful to Ms. Monika, the Erasmus coordinator, whose guidance and support made every administrative and academic process smooth and stress-free.

Living in the university-affiliated dormitory added another wonderful dimension to my Erasmus experience. The dorm was more than just a place to stay—it became a lively hub of friendship, laughter, and shared experiences. My friends and I created countless memorable moments together. We organized movie nights, karaoke parties, late-night walks, barbecues, and relaxing Sunday brunches. We also explored the nearby forest for walks and picnics, and held fun game nights full of laughter and friendly competition. These moments strengthened our bonds, turning classmates into lifelong friends. Even though balancing academics with social activities could be tiring at times, every experience was worth it, and I cherished every moment.

I also made the most of my free time by traveling across Europe. Short weekend trips and longer adventures allowed me to explore new cultures, cities, and landscapes. These journeys enriched my experience far beyond the classroom, giving me new perspectives, memories, and inspiration.

Beyond academics and travel, my Erasmus stay was a period of personal development. I tried new activities, discovered hobbies, and continually challenged myself to step out of my comfort zone. Every lecture, presentation, and conversation contributed to making this journey engaging and rewarding. The combination of dorm life, exploring Kalisz with friends, and traveling abroad created a perfectly balanced experience full of joy, discovery, and connection.

Looking back, my Erasmus in Kalisz was more than just studying abroad—it was a life-changing journey. The University of Kalisz, its dedicated professors, the supportive Erasmus coordination, the vibrant dorm life, and the countless adventures across Europe created memories that I will cherish forever. My Erasmus experience in Kalisz has been a really meaningful and enriching time for me. Living here has allowed me to discover a new culture, meet people from different countries like Kosovo, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Poland too, and become more independent.

The city feels welcoming and calm and cozy which made it easier to adapt to daily life and focus on my studies.

Through this experience, I’ve learned not only academically, but also personally, gaining confidence and unforgettable memories.

My name is Ahmad, I am 27 years old from Jordan , and I specialize in Physiotherapy.

I came to Poland, specifically to the city of Kalisz, to spend one academic semester. Upon arriving in Kalisz, I immediately noticed the contrast between the nature here and that of my home country. The vast plains, forests, and rivers, as well as the abundance of water, were particularly striking. I also observed clear differences in customs, traditions, culture, language, and climate compared to Jordan.

As the semester began, I joined additional classes such as Biomechanics and Therapeutic Exercises alongside local Polish students. During this period, I traveled several times with Dr. Artur, visiting a number of Polish cities, including Poznań, Wrocław, Kraków, and Warsaw. I also had the opportunity to attend a medical–legal court session with him. Although the proceedings were conducted in Polish, I could clearly observe the facial expressions of those present and the deep respect shown toward the judges. It is also worth mentioning the anatomy and autopsy sessions involving bodies of different age groups, which were a new and enriching experience that greatly expanded my knowledge.

Meanwhile, we gradually witnessed the arrival of winter. Afterward, a holiday break of a little more than two weeks began. During this break, I traveled to Germany, and from there I decided to explore southern Europe. I rented a caravan and started my journey from Germany to France, where I experienced its historic villages, countryside, and plateaus. The natural landscapes were breathtaking, and I noticed the gradual change in daylight hours, as the days seemed to grow longer.

I then continued my journey to Spain, heading toward the Mediterranean Sea, specifically to Valencia, where I spent most of my time.

I became familiar with local traditions, traditional cuisine, and the surrounding villages of Valencia, where people used to travel by wooden boats between pine trees, and where roads had not been built until about fifty years ago. I also experienced swimming in the Mediterranean Sea, enjoying its soft sand and clear waters.

Eventually, I returned to Kalisz to prepare and submit the final projects for my courses, as the academic system here relies heavily on project-based learning, practical activities, and also includes some theoretical examinations.

My experience was not easy, but it was extremely valuable. I learned a great deal, developed myself and my abilities, and discovered aspects of my personality that I had not known before. Through this journey, I gained new knowledge and experiences and met many people who enriched my personal and academic life.

My name is Jana Ameen, a Digital Marketing student from Jordan. I applied for the Erasmus+ student exchange program for the winter semester of the academic year 2025/2026 and was accepted to study at the University of Kalisz in Poland.

This experience marked the first time in my life that I traveled alone and lived away from my family. I began this journey fully aware that it would involve challenges, new responsibilities, and unfamiliar experiences.

During my first months in Kalisz, which coincided with the end of summer, I was truly amazed by the beauty and diversity of nature. The landscapes varied between lakes, rivers, forests, and wide open plains. Green fields and vegetable farms were everywhere, and I encountered animals I had never seen in real life before, such as squirrels and moose.

As winter arrived, heavy snowfall transformed Kalisz into a breathtaking white scene. Watching the city slowly change under the snow was a magical experience and one of the most memorable moments of my stay.

Academically, studying in Poland was a unique and enriching experience. The courses focused strongly on practical work and real-life applications, alongside theoretical subjects, which made the learning process both engaging and valuable.

Throughout this journey, I met people from different cultural backgrounds and learned words from several languages. Getting to know Polish culture was especially interesting, as Polish traditions and social customs differ in many ways from those in my home country.

I also had the opportunity to visit several Polish cities, including Poznań, Kraków, Wrocław, Warsaw, and Zakopane. I experienced traveling by train for the first time, and each city had its own unique character, whether through its architecture, history, or natural scenery.

During the long academic break, I traveled to several European countries such as France, Italy, and Switzerland. I explored new cultures and visited world-famous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and the city of Rome. This journey was filled with knowledge, exploration, and unforgettable adventures.

Returning to Kalisz and concluding this experience was emotionally meaningful. I never expected to grow so attached to this city. Overall, the Erasmus exchange was a rich and rewarding journey full of stories, challenges, and personal growth. I formed new friendships, visited beautiful places, and discovered new strengths and aspects of my personality that I had not known before.
